Gerrit concocted this one last year and to my knowledge it has stayed on the shelf. Well no more. It’s very much similar to Bhard’s birthday mile. Essentially a counterclockwise loop of the entire park south of Curry Rd, with a little bit of snaking around to hit some features. Three or so climbs to add some spice. Though this time the singlespeeders were granted a pass to take the 2nd of 3 options up on to the eastern ridge. More on that later. Three laps, baron after two.
A quick start to make room for some hikers and we rolled off in a pack. Climbed away from the drop and down the normal LoPiano climb. A couple of the youngin’ mistakenly took the SS shortcut with their gears, but they don’t know the area well. And they stayed true on laps two and three. So we’ll let that slide. Coming around the awkward drop/right turn by Curry, I managed a pass of Cody (SS) who struck a pedal and had to dab. Kept tabs on Lasse as we grunted up the backside of the ridge into the lower loop to the footbridge.
Lap two went unchanged and led us into the baron stop. Krack was right on my wheel and Cody pulled up before I could open my soda. We went out in the same order, but it didn’t last long. Krack took a pass along the canal before the SS shortcut. Time to see if it worked. I took my rightful early left turn and made for the ridge. Surprisingly it put me a solid 30 seconds ahead of him at the top. Though I could hear him behind me the whole way. Managed to clear all the loose climbs and was able to keep the Krack at bay.
p.s. ~ There’s only 8 weeks left! And we’ve got some good loops with baron volunteers planned. But the general fund is getting a bit dry. If you haven’t chipped in to the baron fund this season now is a perfect time. We’re going to close out with a bang, so stay tuned and be prepared for some fun these last two months 🙂
